TAMMS, Ill. -- Charles Gross, 74, of Tamms passed away at 9:34 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017, in Tamms. Charles was born March 4, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Carl Gross and Pansy Laverne Helderman Gross. He married Linda Dunning on June 26, 1978...

TAMMS, Ill. -- Charles Gross, 74, of Tamms passed away at 9:34 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017, in Tamms.

Charles was born March 4, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Carl Gross and Pansy Laverne Helderman Gross. He married Linda Dunning on June 26, 1978.

He served in the United States Army. On Jan. 9, 1969, in Houston, he received his Certificate of Ordination from the Miracle Revival Fellowship. He attended Tamms United Methodist Church. Charles loved church and loved making people laugh. He always said there is too much sorrow and we need more laughter. He will be missed by those who loved to have fun with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Michael Gross and Donald Gross; grandparents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Helen Dunning; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Ramsey and Barbara Carr; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Smith and Bill Dunning.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Gross of Tamms; a son, Danny Ray Gross of Tamms; a sister, Mary Ann Pickering of Houston; a brother, Carl M. Gross of Missouri; and nephews and nieces.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home Tamms.

The funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Brent Gordon and the Rev. Pete Vinson officiating. Interment will be in Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Illinois, with full military honors given by Illinois National Guard Burial Team and area veterans.
