Charles W. "Jake" Crader, 68, of Jackson died Monday, May 26, 2008, at his home. He was born April 13, 1940, in Burfordville, son of Charlie W. and Recel F. Cotner Crader. He and Jean "Judy" Lawrence were married July 6, 1963. Crader joined the National Guard in 1957, serving three years. He then joined the U.S. Navy, retiring as chief petty officer in 1979. He was a member of DAV and a life member of Fleet Reserve Association...

Charles W. "Jake" Crader, 68, of Jackson died Monday, May 26, 2008, at his home.

He was born April 13, 1940, in Burfordville, son of Charlie W. and Recel F. Cotner Crader. He and Jean "Judy" Lawrence were married July 6, 1963.

Crader joined the National Guard in 1957, serving three years. He then joined the U.S. Navy, retiring as chief petty officer in 1979. He was a member of DAV and a life member of Fleet Reserve Association.

After retiring from the Navy he worked in the maintenance department at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau until 1999. He was a member of Burfordville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles "Chuck" Crader of Jackson; three sisters, Mary Lou King of Hamlet, N.C., Glenda Neal of Indianapolis, Ind., Linda Wallman of Jackson; and a brother, Danny Crader of Oak Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Morris Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.
