SCOTT CITY -- Elder Charles Edward Burke, 79, of Scott City died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born March 25, 1917, at Lilbourn, son of William Thomas and Mary Ethel Choate Burke. He and Blanch Culbertson were married in August 1937 in Cape Girardeau. She died June 19, 1992...

SCOTT CITY -- Elder Charles Edward Burke, 79, of Scott City died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 25, 1917, at Lilbourn, son of William Thomas and Mary Ethel Choate Burke. He and Blanch Culbertson were married in August 1937 in Cape Girardeau. She died June 19, 1992.

Burke worked 25 years at Missouri Dry Dock and Repair, retiring in 1968. He was a member of Apostolic Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church and an ordained deacon and elder, and an honorary member of Bure Hunting Club.

Survivors include two sons, Bob and the Rev. Billy Burke of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Judy Scott of Scott City; two sisters, Thelma Points and Eunice Seabaugh of Cape Girardeau; a half brother, John Burke of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and daughter.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Revs. Robert Smithey Jr. and Vester Keesee officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
