JACKSON, Mo. -- Charles Wesley Bright, 86, passed away Monday, March 11, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Jeff Sippy will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Bright was born May 22, 1915, at Swinton, Mo., son of Grover C. and Sophia C. Knoppf Bright. He and Florence Hyslop were united in marriage Nov. 7, 1936.
Loving survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Marlene Bright of Augusta, Ga.; two granddaughters, Penlope (Phillip) Shields of Parker, Colo., Casandra (Marty) Weiser of Olathe, Kan.; two great-grandsons, Jeremy and Jordan Weiser; a great-granddaughter, Jaycie Weiser; two sisters, Freda Tucker of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Bernice Kelly of Ruskin, Fla.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Bright farmed in the Bloomfield, Mo., community many years. From 1952-61 he worked at the former Carney Meat Packing plant in Dexter, Mo. In 1961 he moved to Cape Girardeau and owned and operated Bright's Mobil gas station from 1961-65.
He worked on a farm for Dr. Schoss from 1965-72, worked at the former Florsheim Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau from 1972-83, and worked on the family farm on Route Y from 1983-91.
Mr. Bright moved to Jackson in 1991 and to the Lutheran Home in 2000. He had been a member of Hanover Lutheran Church since 1969, was involved with the Men's Club, served on the Stewardship Board, Teen Committee for the former roller rink, and was a church usher many years.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Hanover Lutheran building fund or the New Home Cemetery fund at Puxico, Mo.
