PERRYVILLE -- Charles Melvin Besand, 86, of Perryville died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1996, at Chester Memorial Hospital in Chester, Ill.
He was born March 18, 1910, in Perry County, son of Emil S. and Anna Tiehes Besand. He and Doris M. Weber were married Nov. 8, 1947, at Highland.
Besand was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church and VFW Post 4282. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Anna Kelly of Tampa, Fla., Kathleen Lowes of Cuba, Mo., Elaine Winschel of Apple Creek, Margie Kramer of Perryville, Mary Meader of Jackson; two sons, Dennis and Keith Besand of Perryville; 23 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. today, and Friday from 6:30-9:50 a.m. The parish wake will be at 6:30 tonight, and VFW service at 7.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Gerard P. Kelly officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.
