Charles Allers

Charles L. Allers, 71, of Oak Ridge passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born Oct. 31, 1937, in Cape Girardeau, son of Henry John and Amanda M. Frank Allers. He and Pauline Schirmer were married May 8, 1965, in Wittenberg, Mo.

Charles enlisted in the Army National Guard Co. E 140th Infantry on Nov. 29, 1954. He was honorably discharged Nov. 28, 1957, as a private first class.

He was a member of Cape County Coon Hunters Association, AmVets in Perryville and Egypt Mills Antique Tractor Club. He enjoyed dancing and playing music. He created the Mixed Travelers Country Band.

Charles worked at the Coca-Cola Plant in Jackson. In the early 1960s he began work at Fruitland Auction Barn, where he worked for over 23 years, and worked his own farm west of Oak Ridge many years.

He was baptized and confirmed at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, then transferred to Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. Since 2008 Charles has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 44 years; a son, Paul Allers of Oak Ridge; a daughter, Anna Cook of Altenburg, Mo.; two granddaughters, Kristie and Shania Cook of Altenburg; and a brother, August "Bud" Allers of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors.
