CHAFFEE, Mo. — Charlene Steger, daughter of the late Aloysius Kern and Rose Westrich Kern was born Feb. 18, 1943, in New Hamburg, Missouri, and departed her life Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Missouri, at the age of 80.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, former employee of Thorngate Factory Assembly, and a resident of Scott City.
She was an amazing wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She loved watching her nieces and nephews play sports and spoiling the babies. Charlene loved St. Lawrence Parish, playing Bingo, scratch-off tickets, fishing, family gatherings and going to the casino. Her family and friends will miss her smile, her laugh and the joy she brought to our family.
On Feb. 14, 1976, she was united in marriage to Shelby "Skip" Lance Steger in New Hamburg. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include three brothers, Elmer "Cotton" (Patsy) Kern, Al "Otto" (Bernice) Kern Jr. and Donald (Cheryl) Kern, all of New Hamburg; two sisters, Georgie Bennett and Carol (Floyd) Klipfel both of New Hamburg; 14 nieces and nephew; 19 great-nieces and -nephews; four great-great-nieces and -nephews; also, by other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert "Duke" Kern, and by two sisters, Joan Kern and Barbara Jean Kern.
Visitation will be held from 9 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at St. Lawrence Parish Center.
Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, with Father Daniel Belkin officiating. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
