VANDALIA, Ill. -- Charlene Pryor, 76, of Vandalia passed away at 12:32 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Charlene McNeil was born March 14, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Charles W. and Virginia L. Brockmeir McNeil Jr.

She was a former head produce clerk at Vandalia Kroger for 14 years. She then began working for Illinois Department of Corrections as a correctional officer, retiring from Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro.

Throughout the years, Charlene had several hobbies. She loved quilting, crafting, gardening and cooking. She also had an avid love for travel and a passion in supporting Parkinson's Foundation, including traveling all over with a quilt she helped design for the organization. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Charlene is survived by her daughter, Heidi, and husband, Sheldon Schulte, of Vandalia; son, Matthew Pryor, and wife, Ashley, of Vandalia; daughter, Ginny Pryor, and husband, Danny Robinson, of Hillsboro; brother, Robert McNeil, and wife, Sharon, of Loveland, Colorado; grandchildren, Haley, and husband, Jacob Tompkins, Brendan Boley and Anna Miller, Kaitlin Robinson, Trey Robinson, Ayden Pryor and Amelia Pryor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Kean Pryor.

Per Charlene's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.

A private graveside service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery in Litchfield, Illinois, with Pastor Zach Shaeffer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson's Foundation or Second Chance Animal Rescue.

Arrangements are by Hohlt and File Funeral Home of Vandalia.
