CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. -- Charlene Shell King-Barton, 81, of Crystal City passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at St. Anthony's Medical Center. She was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Dongola, Missouri, the daughter of Norman and Rita Sample Shell. Charlene had been a homemaker and also had worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She was a member of Good News Community Church in Crystal City. She had been a lifelong volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Crystal City...

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. -- Charlene Shell King-Barton, 81, of Crystal City passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at St. Anthony's Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Dongola, Missouri, the daughter of Norman and Rita Sample Shell.

Charlene had been a homemaker and also had worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She was a member of Good News Community Church in Crystal City. She had been a lifelong volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Crystal City.

Charlene and Fred King were united in marriage Dec. 4, 1962, in St. Louis, and he passed away in August 2013. She was married to Carl Barton in December 2004, and he preceded her in death in January 2005.

Survivors include a son, Joseph (Lana) King of Cincinnati; three daughters, Denise (Tom) Gatto of Hillsboro, Missouri, and Marie Needy and Jeannie Baumgartner, both of Festus, Missouri; two sisters, Carol Costello of Advance, Missouri, and Brenda (L.E.) VanGennip of Marble Hill, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, Andrea Hackworth, Laura Hackworth, Jayne (Scottie) Lewis, Katie (Casey) Marler, Alyssa Gatto, Aric Gatto, Joseph Baumgartner, Nick Baumgartner, Christopher Baumgartner, Elizabeth Kohler, Alex Henry, Olivia King and Sam King; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Deanna Kohler; three brothers, Grant, Bob and Burke Shell; and four sisters, Mary Lou Winchester, Norma Nelson, Velma Bess and Joann Parker.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Burial will follow at Dongola Cemetery in Dongola.
