SIKESTON, Mo. -- Chalmer A. "Chal" Dockins, 86, of Sikeston died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Malden, Mo., son of George Franklin and Cora Mae Ballard Dockins. He and Evelyn McClellan Dockins were married May 15, 1938. She preceded him in death...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Chalmer A. "Chal" Dockins, 86, of Sikeston died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Malden, Mo., son of George Franklin and Cora Mae Ballard Dockins. He and Evelyn McClellan Dockins were married May 15, 1938. She preceded him in death.

Dockins was a member of the Illinois Avenue General Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Dockins was a building contractor for 20 years and owned and operated a car wash business for the past 25 years.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Ray Dockins of Cape Girardeau and Norman Lee Dockins of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Coyita Thomas of Sikeston; a brother, Donald Dockins of St. Louis; three sisters, Mildred Robison and Helen Caruthers, both of Roxanna, Ill., and Ruby Ruth McNail of Ironton, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Trotter officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
