SIKESTON -- Cecil E. Montgomery, 85, of Memphis, Tenn., died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at his home. He was born Jan. 27, 1911, at Ellington, son of Richard Henley and Effie Elizabeth Brawley Montgomery. He and Ruth H. Lanning were married on March 11, 1942, at Elkton, Md. She died Feb. 22, 1980...

SIKESTON -- Cecil E. Montgomery, 85, of Memphis, Tenn., died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at his home.

He was born Jan. 27, 1911, at Ellington, son of Richard Henley and Effie Elizabeth Brawley Montgomery.

He and Ruth H. Lanning were married on March 11, 1942, at Elkton, Md. She died Feb. 22, 1980.

He then married Jean Tiller King on Nov. 12, 1983.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis.

He managed the Fox Meadows County Club for 10 years. He had been general superintendent of Cyclone Fence Co. in Newark, N.J., before he joined his brother in Memphis in 1951.

He was active in home construction and land development until he retired in 1981. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a Shriner.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Montgomery; two stepdaughters, Billie Wolff and Carolyn Mathis, both of Memphis; a brother, Joel A. Montgomery of Sikeston; and a sister, Helen Johnson of Memphis.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call from 5-8 tonight at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Ken Jarvis of the Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
