Cecil Matthew Hitt, 80, of 720 William died Saturday, Aug. 10, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Jan. 25, 1916, in Whitewater, son of Grover B. and Esther E. Snider Hitt.
He married Leona Steele on Jan. 9, 1959, in Benton.
Hitt was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau and H.O. Grauel Masonic Lodge 672 in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by his wife; a stepson, Joseph John Rouse of Poplar Bluff; a stepdaughter, Betty Raby of St. Simons Island, Ga.; two brothers: Roby Hitt of Scott City and Paul "Leroy" Hitt of Springfield, Mo.; three sisters: Leatha Rister of Blodgett, Myrtle Reed of Bethalto, Ill., and Marie Stalon of Cape Girardeau; and five step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City. A Masonic service will be held at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Dickey officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Commerce.
Graveside military rites will be held by VFW Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau.
