GRAND TOWER, Ill. -- Cecil Ray Baltzell, 76, formerly of Grand Tower, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 2, 1921, in Jonesboro, son of James H. and Rachel Penrod Baltzell. He married Frances Tuve Baltzell, who preceded him in death.

Baltzell was a machinist. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include two daughters, Diana Baltzell of Carbondale, Melba DeMartini of Eagan, Minn.; a son, David Baltzell of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, several brothers, and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Crawshaw Funeral Chapel in Grand Tower from 6-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Robin Lyons officiating. Burial will be in Walker Hill Cemetery at Grand Tower, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 127 and VFW Post 7190 of Murphysboro, VFW Post 2605 of Carbondale, and Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69.
