CARLYLE, Ill. -- Catherine Trickey, 97 of Carlyle went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle.
Mrs. Trickey was born March 28, 1914, in Mount Carmel, Ill., a daughter of John and Daisy Stillwell Ravenstein. She married the love of her life, Scott Wilson Trickey Sr., on March 27, 1932, in Jonesboro, Ill., and he preceded her in death Jan. 19, 1980.
Also preceding her in death were five brothers; three sisters; three sons, Scott Wilson Trickey Jr., Jerry Lee Trickey and William Ray Trickey; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Trickey.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Kampwerth and husband Simon of Carlyle; 10 grandchildren, Charles Trickey and wife Nancy, Kathy Steinkamp, Linda Overby, Donna Lehmann and husband Tom, William Trickey and wife Denise, Cynthia Gomez and husband Johnny, Steven Kampwerth and wife Carolyn, Simon Kampwerth Jr. and wife Sally, Deanna Holmes and husband Bob, and Duane Trickey and wife Diana. She is also survived by numerous great- and great-great- grandchildren.
Catherine was most known for her love of God's nature. She was an active horticulturist, conservationist and enjoyed beautifying every home she lived in with a floral view for all to enjoy. During her early years she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member at the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle. She was also a Cub Scouts den mother and was awarded the Illinois Wildlife Federation Woman of the Year award in 1976. She worked for the Piggly Wiggly store in Carlyle. Catherine and Scott were most proud of their years devoted to the Illinois Wildlife Federation. They traveled throughout the United States not only for recreation, but to promote the preservation of our nature's forests and wildlife preserves. Her most enjoyable hobby was creating silk floral arrangements for her friends and family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at held at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Cemetery.
The family suggests planting a tree in her honor, or donations may be made to Heartland Hospice.
