BENTON, Mo. -- Catherine Nadine Toner of Rankin, Ill., formerly of Benton, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, in Danville, Ill.
Catherine was born June 29, 1959, in Cape Girardeau, to W.A. and Julia Strosnider Lynn.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy L. Toner; and their three sons, Rodney Anthony Whitehead and wife Ming and son Jonathan of Spring, Texas, Devon Lee Toner and Brandon Matthew LeLand Toner of Rankin; a sister, Patricia Stuckey and husband John of Holts Summit, Mo.; a brother, John Lynn and wife Mary of Copperton, Utah; and a sister, Lynda Carter and husband Myron of Scott City.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; a brother, Clyde Lynn; and a sister, Riona Lynn McCrory.
Cathy was a very tender, loving, giving person to everyone she met. She especially had an extremely strong, loving bond and devotion to God, her family and her friends. Cathy was the most honest, compassionate, dependable and caring person, always putting others before herself.
Her professional education began by receiving an associate degree in applied science and medical laboratory technician certificate, MLT (ASCP), from Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, Ill. She obtained a bachelor of science and certification of medical technologist, MT (ASCP), from the University of Illinois in Springfield. She later obtained certification as a specialist in hematology, SH (ASCP).
Cathy supervised several departments in the laboratory for Alverno Clinical Laboratories at Provena United Samaritan Hospital in Danville. With great excitement, enthusiasm and patience, she enjoyed teaching and ensuring the utmost quality work was always performed. Her colleagues highly respected her and looked to her as a solid, knowledgeable resource.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Unity Baptist Church in Benton, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Lowe. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery.
