SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Catherine G. Sexton, 55, of Scott City, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at her home. She was born Feb. 13, 1945, in Converse, Texas, the daughter of Cercencio and Ysedra Garcia Guzman. She had worked for the past 23 years at Thorngate Ltd. as a steam press operator...

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Catherine G. Sexton, 55, of Scott City, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at her home.

She was born Feb. 13, 1945, in Converse, Texas, the daughter of Cercencio and Ysedra Garcia Guzman. She had worked for the past 23 years at Thorngate Ltd. as a steam press operator.

She was a wonderful mother who gave selflessly of herself to her family and friends. Her hobby was spoiling her children and grandchilden. She was of the Catholic faith.

She married Charles Everett Sexton on Sept. 22, 1963, at Oran, Mo.

She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Shirleen Sexton of Cape Girardeau, Rebecca and Carl Backfisch of Benton, Mo., Shana and Kevin Lacey of Scott City, Mo., and Charlotte and Craig Murphy of O'Fallon, Ill.; three brothers, Arnold, Moggie and Raymond Guzman, all of Oran; five sisters, Delores Rosas of Lubbock, Texas, Sophie Sauceda and Sarah Miller, both of Sikeston, Mo., Alberta Martinez of San Antonio, Texas; and Hopie Fuentes of Grand Rapids, Mich. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Samantha Backfisch, Kyle and Melanie Lacey and Allyson and Jamie Murphy.

She was preceded by her mother and father and eight brothers and sisters.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Cebulak officiating. Burial will be in the old Guardian Angel Cemetery in Oran.
