Catherine Rathert, 94, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of St. Louis, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born Oct. 29, 1911, at Boystown, Pa., daughter of Stephan and Anna Matvy. She and Walter G. Rathert were married Sept. 1, 1938, at St. Louis. He died June 5, 1980...

Catherine Rathert, 94, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of St. Louis, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Oct. 29, 1911, at Boystown, Pa., daughter of Stephan and Anna Matvy. She and Walter G. Rathert were married Sept. 1, 1938, at St. Louis. He died June 5, 1980.

Rathert was employed for 35 years at the Famous Barr South Town and South County stores in the family and men's shoe departments, retiring at age 82 in 1992. She moved to Cape Girardeau in 2002 and resided at the Lutheran Home.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara A. Glass of Cape Girardeau; a son, Richard A. Rathert of Decatur, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister; a sister, Anna Loenges Kussmann of St. Louis; a brother, Joseph Matvy of Meadowlands, Minn.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Mortuary Hoffmeister-Kriegshauser Funeral Directors, 6464 Chippewa St., St. Louis.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in New St. Marcus Cemetery.
