HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Carroll Jane Duncan Shoss, 78, beloved wife of Dr. Milton "Mike" Shoss, died peacefully in her sleep at their home in Hilton Head Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, with her devoted husband of 59 years at her side.
Mrs. Shoss, a native of Webb City, Mo., and the daughter of the late Dewey Clayton and Eliza Goodson Duncan, completed her nursing training at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where she met her husband, a radiology intern at the time.
She and her husband raised their family in Cape Girardeau, living there 36 years until his retirement in 1986.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Shoss is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Shoss Watson, a lawyer in New York City; a son, Robert Duncan Shoss, a business consultant in Houston; her sweet 17-year-old granddaughter and namesake, Lucy Jane Watson, a student and dancer who was her Granny Jane's pride and joy; a son-in-law, David Watson; and daughter-in-law, Gretchen Heyer; as well as her brother, Capt. Robert Duncan of Alexandria, Va., and his family.
The graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today at Six Oaks Cemetery in Hilton Head.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate the life of Jane Shoss at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Card Room at The Cypress in Hilton Head.
The Island Funeral Home in Hilton Head is in charge of arrangements.
