Carroll Adams

Carroll M. Adams, 88, of Jackson died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 20, 1915, at Illmo, son of Carroll Blaine and Mary Alice Humphreys Adams. He and Mable Lee Shawan were married in 1937. She died in 1972. He then married Hazel Kitchens in 1973. She died in 1989. He and Kathleen Barringer Fisher were married May 29, 1990.

Carroll graduated from the former Illmo High School in 1933 and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He was a radarman in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1943 to 1945.

He began working for Cotton Belt Railroad in 1942, retiring as an engineer in 1978. He farmed near Fruitland a number of years.

Carroll moved to Jackson in 1974 from Cape Girardeau. His favorite hobby was wood carving. He was a member of Cape First, American Legion Post in Jackson, Harold O. Grauel Masonic Lodge in Cape Girardeau, and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite member.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Marie Adams of Chesterfield, Mo., Robert and Laraine Adams of Jackson, Bradley and Ethel Adams of Benton, Mo.; two stepsons, Jon Fisher and wife Toni, and David Fisher, all of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a great-stepgrandson.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Meredith Adams, and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. A Masonic service will be held at 7.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Gary Brothers and Charles Lance officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
