Carolyn Essie Monroe, 60, of Cape Girardeau lost her courageous battle to ovarian cancer Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at her home, surrounded by family.
She was born Feb. 18, 1955, in Cape Girardeau to Vernon and Miriam Kessee Roth. She and Danny Monroe were married July 5, 1974.
Carolyn was a member of Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church. She always will be remembered as strong, full of life and always ready to take on the next task. She devoted her life to helping family and friends. Gardening, fishing and caring for her animals were a few of her passions. She also cherished her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her mother, Miriam Roth of Cape Girardeau; husband, Danny Monroe of Cape Girardeau; son, Robert (Kelly) Monroe and their children, Tommy, Lucy and Evie; daughter, Missy Monroe Ehlers (fiance, Damon Dillard) and children, Haley and Danielle; son, Adam (Ashley) Monroe and their children, Frankie, Jackie, Josie, Levi and Lewis; daughter, Laura Monroe (fiance, Chris Martin) and daughter, Sophie, all of Cape Girardeau; brother, Vernon (Janet) Roth Jr. of Cape Girardeau; brother, Gary (Jan) Roth of Jackson; sister, Linda (Bob) Perkins of Jackson; sister, Monessa Dockins of Oak Ridge; brother, Richard (Sue) Roth of Cape Girardeau; brother, Jeff (Karen) Roth of Jackson; best friend, Janet Penrose of Cape Girardeau; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and a granddaughter, Mackenzie Sieler Monroe.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rodger Rice officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
