Carolyn Luton Crain Geittmann, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Olmsted, Ill., to Charlie Meadows and Anna Ervin Luton. She married James W. Crain in 1953, and later married E. Charles Geittmann in 1981. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Carolyn was a graduate of Mound City Community High School and stayed active in alumni and reunions. She also attended University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

She was an accomplished avid (scratch) golfer and card player. Carolyn was a licensed pilot. She was an accomplished musician and loved to sing in her younger years. She was a member of DAR. She was a genealogist, working more than 40 years specializing in Civil War and her personal family research. Carolyn participated in Civil War Roundtable.

She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved traveling. She loved living at Chateau Girardeau and loved the wonderful staff and residents in the year she lived there.

She is survived by two sons, Steve (Rita) Crain and Jeff (Teri) Crain of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Bradshaw of Cape Girardeau, Lisa (Alex) Parsons of St. Charles, Mo., Olivia and Jack Crain of Cape Girardeau; two stepchildren, Rick Geittmann and Jodi Geittmann of Seattle; three great-grandchildren, Will and Sam Bradshaw of Cape Girardeau, Anna Parsons of St. Charles; a special cousin, Edward Lee (Pauline) Luton; two nephews, Todd and Scott Luton; and many friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Gordon Luton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating. Interment will be in Cache Chapel Cemetery near Ullin, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Cape Girardeau Senior Citizen Center, Civil War Roundtable or First Presbyterian Church, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
