Carolyn Lucille Schwieger, 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away at 6 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 2020, at her home. She was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Thebes, Illinois, the daughter of Taylor and Lucille Coursey, and was affectionately known by many as "Connie." Carolyn Lucille Schwieger, 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away at 6 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 2020, at her home.

She was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Thebes, Illinois, the daughter of Taylor and Lucille Coursey, and was affectionately known by many as "Connie." Carolyn and Cecil Schwieger were united in marriage Feb. 2, 1963.

Carolyn worked as a second-grade teacher for Egyptian School in Tamms, Illinois, until she retired. She also served as a Sunday school teacher, participated in a number of Bible study groups at various churches throughout her life and did volunteer work.

Survivors include children, Bruce (Mary) Schwieger of Olive Branch, Illinois, and Dana Schwieger of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Sarah Ressel and Logan Schwieger; and her mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband; father; sister, Linda Haman; and an infant son.

Graveside service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. The family requests those attending wear comfortable attire. Inurnment will follow.

The family would like to thank all the many friends who have offered assistance, kept them in their prayers and walked with them throughout the cancer journey. They would also like to thank Saxony Lutheran Retirement Center and Southeast Hospice for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to your church or an organization that helps others.
