Carolyn JoAnn Blattel, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at Ratliff Care Center.
She was born March 17, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, to Paul and Pearl Kniebert Kitchen. She and Zeno "Sam" Blattel were married Aug. 28, 1965, at Kelso, Missouri.
Carolyn was an active member of the Church of God. She owned and operated JoAnn's Beauty Shop. She was a gospel singer and songwriter. JoAnn loved to shop and be with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Zeno "Sam" Blattel of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Teresa (Richard) Compton and Crystal (Aaron) Kirleis of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Gene Kitchen of Chicago, Doug and Larry Kitchen of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren, Tyler Grovenor, Trey (Tabitha) Grovenor, Todd Grovenor, Tori Compton, Kaylee Kirleis, Kelsey Kirleis, Karly Kirleis and Kaden Kirleis; and three great-grandchildren, Brock Compton, Blain Compton and Terra Ann Grovenor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Paul, Sam, Jake and Bill Kitchen; and three grandchildren, Trenton and Trevor Grovenor and Kamille Kirleis.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Phil Roop officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
