Carol Ann Welter, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at her home. She was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Oran, Missouri, to Leo and Irmina Dannenmueller Hamm. She and James F. Welter were married Oct. 10, 1959, at Oran. Carol was a 1957 graduate of Bell City High School, where she was a basketball cheerleader and member of the volleyball team. Carol Ann Welter, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at her home.

She was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Oran, Missouri, to Leo and Irmina Dannenmueller Hamm. She and James F. Welter were married Oct. 10, 1959, at Oran.

Carol was a 1957 graduate of Bell City High School, where she was a basketball cheerleader and member of the volleyball team. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Carol loved yard work, flowers, birds and gardening.

Survivors include her husband, James F. Welter of Cape Girardeau; a son, Timothy Gerard (Laurie) Welter of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Sheila Ann (Vic) Ortega of Springfield, Missouri; a brother, Melvin (Martha Ann) Hamm of Benton, Missouri; two sisters, Luella (Harold) Kielhofner of Oran and Doris "Dottie" Pekarek of Cape Girardeau; a sister-in-law, Bertha Hamm of Oran; and four grandchildren, Emily and Nicole Ortega of Springfield and Kaitlin and Alexis Welter of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gilbert Hamm.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m., with Knights of Columbus rosary immediately following.

Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Hospice or St. Vincent de Paul Parish Building Fund.
