Carol E. Carter, 66, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at her home.
She was born July 14, 1942, in Southgate, Calif., daughter of Andrew Jackson and Gertrude Jeanette Christopher Boston. She first married Clarence Joseph Hoffmeister. He passed away. Later she married Myron B. "Boomer" Carter Sr., and he also passed away.
Carter worked as a legal secretary in St. Louis and Cape Girardeau for 20 years. Later she worked for the city manager's office in Cape Girardeau, followed by a position as administrative secretary for the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, retiring in 2003.
She received the Community Service Award from the city of Cape Girardeau for 1989-1990 and the appreciation award from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department in 1993, 1994 and 1998. Carter received the Award of Distinction from Community Council of Vision 2000. She was very involved with and was a leader of the Firemen Fund. Carter was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3838 Auxiliary and Elks Lodge No. 639 Ladies Auxiliary. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph Todd Hoffmeister of Jackson, Thomas Andrew Hoffmeister of Cape Girardeau, Dr. Timothy Alan Hoffmeister of Marion, Ohio; two sisters, Doris A. Jones of San Jose, Calif., Glinda J. Boston of Jackson; two brothers, Donald A. Boston of Orlando, Fla., Charles E. Boston of Boston; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Phillip Werner of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Clarence Joseph Hoffmeister; and her second husband, Myron B. "Boomer" Carter.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Shrum officiating.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
