FAIRDEALING -- Funeral for former state legislator Carleton Barfield Fulbright Sr. of Jefferson City will be held at 2 p.m. today at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Jefferson City. The Rev. Jim Walker will officiate, with burial in Riverview Cemetery.
Fulbright, 87, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Oak View Living Center.
He was born Jan. 15, 1911, in Fairdealing, son of James F. and Maude Barfield Fulbright. He and Sara Marie Snider were married Feb. 9, 1935, in Poplar Bluff.
Fulbright was a 1927 graduate of Doniphan High School, 1933 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University where he was active in Democratic Party politics, received a master of education degree from the University of Missouri in 1948, and did graduate study at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Elected to the Missouri House of Representatives from Ripley County in 1934 at the age of 23, he was said to be the youngest person to serve in that position.
Fulbright was a former state supervisor of public schools for Missouri Department of Education, and former state director of National Defense Education Act, Title III.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Jefferson City Rotary Club. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; and a son, C.B. Fulbright Jr. of Jefferson City.
