ADVANCE, Mo. -- Carl E. Ward, 89, of Advance died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at his home.
He was born April 22, 1919, at Sylvia, Mo., son of Leonard and Grace Carlton Ward. He and Trella Pape were married June 2, 1947, in Piggott, Ark. She died Dec. 23, 1996.
Carl was a farmer and a bus driver for Zalma School District 31 years. He was a member and deacon at Brush Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He had also been a foster parent for over 20 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Regina (Ronald) Smith of Oak Ridge, Janet Finn of Marble Hill, Mo., a daughter-in-law, Marsha Ward of Advance; a brother, Richard Ward of House Springs, Mo.; seven sisters, Irene Batton of Ironton, Mo., Maxine Leach of O'Fallon, Ill., Betty Jo Tucker of Overland, Mo., Phoeby Crader of St. Charles, Mo., Catherine Leadbetter of Marble Hill, Carolyn Shell of Cape Girardeau, Sibyl Nanny of Marble Hill; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Conrad Ward; a foster daughter; two brothers; and a sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Sargent officiating. Burial will be in Berrong Cemetery at Gipsy, Mo.
