MATTHEWS -- Carl E. Shelby, 78, of Matthews died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 29, 1921, at Matthews, son of Charlie and Nellie Gray Rather Shelby. He and Nedra L. Bohanon were married May 7, 1949, in Piggott, Ark.
Shelby had been a carpenter with E.P. Coleman Co. He attended First Church of the Nazarene. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles Shelby of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two daughters, Carla Holland of Blodgett, Lori Caines of Matthews; two brothers, Charles Shelby of St. Charles, Marvin Shelby of Honolulu, Hawaii; a sister, Emma Sloan of Decatur, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel. The Rev. Don Heitman will officiate. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery.
