SIKESTON -- Carl P. Holyfield Sr., 85, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, April 21, 1992, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1906, in Morrilton, Ark., son of Thomas J. and Lela Beeson Holyfield. He and Votra M. Baker were married Jan. 3, 1925, at New Madrid.
Holyfield was a farmer, and for 27 years owned and operated Holyfield Lumber Co. here. He was a charter member and former deacon at Temple of Faith General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, H.J. "Cotton" Holyfield of Sikeston, Carl Holyfield Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Doris Stephens and Ruth Dover of Sikeston; a sister, Hattie Ford of Atkins, Ark.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Raymond Myrick will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
