ORAN, Mo. -- Carl Edward Mason of Oran, 92, was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Dover, Arkansas, to the late Mart and Hattie Anderson Mason and passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022, surrounded by family at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was a lifelong farmer, an avid turkey hunter and camp cook, professional card shark, "professional auctioneer," fan and critic of the St. Louis Cardinals and Oran High School athletics, and driver of the bus for the Oran School District. His hobbies included traveling, singing karaoke, listening to country music, being a horse enthusiast, and watching country westerns. After retiring from farming in 1995, he took up many hobbies, but his favorite was opening Palace Winery, where he made his blue-ribbon, award-winning wine.

On Oct. 25, 1952, he married Clessie Lance in Sikeston, Missouri. She preceded him in death Dec. 18, 1994. Then on April 7, 1995, he married Claude Anne Phillips in Advance, Missouri. She preceded him in death June 24, 2018.

Carl is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Randy) Hawkins of Chesterfield, Missouri, and Lisa (Jay) May of Morley, Missouri; son, Mark (Tina) Mason of Oran; two stepdaughters, Janet Warren of Scott City and Crystal (Brian) Todt of Oran; stepson, Charlie (Darla) Sallee of Oran; two sisters, Mildred (Bob) Mason and Carol Mason, both of LeGrand, Iowa; brother, Gary Mason; two granddaughters, Ashton (Corey) Duncan and Tatum May, both of Springfield, Missouri; seven stepgrandchildren and seven great-stepgrandchildren.

Apart from his parents and his two wives, Carl was also preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Pellham and Pauline Mason; two brothers, General Mason and Harold Mason; and two stepgrandsons, Austin Todt and Dylan Pobst.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon June 10 at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

Memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donnie Ford officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Memorial Garden Cemetery in Morley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Oran Booster Club, P.O. Box 250, Oran, MO 63771.
