Carl A. Marquardt, 80, of Cape Girardeau died February 15, 2003 at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Norfolk, Neb., to Henry Marquardt and Margaret Radloff Marquardt.

He was a retired major of the U.S. Air Force, serving 24 years as a pilot in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Marquardt sold insurance for Prudential Life for 10 years and owned and operated Marquardt Auction and Flea Market in East Cape Girardeau, Ill. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Marquardt, of the home; three sons, Stephen Marquardt of Cape Girardeau, William D. Marquardt of Fairfield, Calif., and Thomas H. Marquardt of Stone Mountain, Ga; and four grandchildren, Raymond Marquardt of Reidsville, N.C., and Terry, Michael and George Marquardt, all of Fairfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home at 1001 N. Mount Auburn, Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Charles Prost officiating. Burial will follow at Mounds City National Cemetery in Mounds, Ill.
