Carl William Long, 76, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at home.
He was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Bollinger County, Mo., son of Pinkney Albert and Esther Mae (Limbaugh) Long. He and Joanna Lou Drum of Advance were married in 1954. She preceded him in death in 1968. He then married Helen Louise Heumann of Columbia, Ill., in 1977, who survives him.
Long graduated from Central High School in Cape Girardeau. He also attended Southeast Missouri State University. Long served in the Missouri National Guard for many years and operated a Standard Oil Service Station. He later joined Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. as a sales representative where he was employed more than 25 years, eventually retiring as district manager in Oklahoma.
A lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau, Long will be dearly missed by many friends and brethren in that congregation.
He is survived by a son, Ronald James Long of Houston, and seven grandchildren, Justin, Daniel, Katelyn, Evan and Olivia Joanna Long, all of Houston, and Conrad and Stuart Higgerson of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Raymond Long, and daughter, Susan Long Higgerson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with ministers Robert Housby and Bryan McAlister officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
