CARL HOWELL

ANNA, Ill. -- Carl W. Howell, 82, of Anna died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at his home.

He was born June 28, 1916, at Goreville, son of Willie and Edna Grace Howell. He first married Mildred Newman in 1938. She died Feb. 25, 1962. He later married Lorene Webb Hale in 1962, who died in 1975. He and Maxine Prather were married in 1976. She died in 1993.

Howell was a retired concrete finisher and a musician. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Howell of Marion; eight stepchildren, Vera Belcher, Wayne, Mack and David Hale, all of Anna, Jeff and Travis Hale of Grand Tower, Eddie Hale of Galesburg, Butch Prather of Buncombe; a brother, Marvin Howell of Dongola; two sisters, Ruth Choate of Jonesboro, Golda Brown of Anna; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, and a grandson.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna from 6-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery.
