Calvin Diebold, son of the late Albert Diebold and Gladys Glueck Diebold, was born May 9, 1937, in Kelso. He entered his heavenly home Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau at the age of 87 years old.

Calvin joined the National Guard in 1954 and then joined the U.S. Army in 1956. He served from 1956 through 1959 while stationed in Germany. Calvin went to work for the Cotton Belt-Southern Pacific Railroad in 1966 and retired in 1998 after 32 years of service. He was a devoted lifelong member of St. Augustine Parish, member of the Scott City Knights of Columbus Council 6420 and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was an avid horseman, as he was the owner of Diebold Meadow Lane Belgians for more than 50 years. He enjoyed traveling to visit his Amish friends in multiple states. He was a master carpenter, building homes, cabinets and furniture for most of his working years. He had an unbelievable work ethic and was a man of his word. His faith in God was unwavering.

Calvin was a devoted and loving husband. On Aug. 13, 1960, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Sater at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee. She survives of the home in Kelso. He treasured his roles as a dad, a grandpa and a great-grandpa.

Besides his wife, survivors include one son, Mitchell (Holly) Diebold of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Deborah (Dru) Wright of Scott City, Rebecca (Dale) Kluesner of Cape Girardeau, Elizabeth (Eddie) Martin of Scott City and Theresa LeGrand of Sikeston; one brother, Morrell (Phyllis) Diebold of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Joyce (Gary) Welter of Cape Girardeau; 15 grandchildren, Rachel Fields, Chris Wright, Justin Kluesner, Arica Eftink, Landon Kluesner, Tracy Martin, Scott Martin, Jennifer Martin, Christian Hughes, Kahri Diebold, Caleb Diebold, Tristan LeGrand, Heidi LeGrand, Isaac LeGrand and Ehren LeGrand; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Harold Sater of Pacific and Russell Eugene Sater of Scott City; also, by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerald “Chabby” and Terry Diebold.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, with the Rev. Tomasz Wilk officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
