C. David Cotner

C. David Cotner, 72, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, April 19, 2019.

He was born Nov. 27, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. Son of Hannah and Chester Cotner, he attended local schools and graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1964. Shortly after his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at the U.S. Marine Base at Camp Pendleton, California. After his discharge, he stayed in California and worked for Atlas Plastics Corp., Western Operations, for 16 years. In 1975, he was inducted into The Society of Plastics Engineers for his achievements in helping to develop a solar water heating system.

In 1975, he also married Ann Cole of California, but divorced in 1981.

In 1993, he returned to the Cape Girardeau area and continued his work in the plastics industry, working with several local companies until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two sisters, Judy Welsh of Jackson and Vicki Zickfield of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Pauline Rumfelt-Cotner, Virginia Cotner, Charlotte Cotner-Crouch and Debbie Norman; and brothers, Stephen Cotner, John Cotner and Anthony Cotner.

Burial will be at High Hill Cemetery at Neelys Landing near Fruitland.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
