THEBES, Ill. -- Funeral service for Burnest Cox, Thebes Route 1, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Alexander Freewill Baptist Church near Olive Branch. The Rev. Billy Don Heady will officiate, with burial in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. to service time.

Jones Funeral Home at Tamms is in charge of arrangements.

Cox, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Bell City, Ky. He married the former Virtus Story McKee.

Cox was a retired construction worker. He was a member of Union Local 773 in Cairo, Alexander-Pulaski County Farm Bureau in Mounds, and attended Alexander Freewill Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Bobby Cox of Dyersburg, Tenn., Terry McKee of Thebes, Jerry McKee of Olive Branch, Wayne McKee of Hartford; a daughter, Sissy McKee Colyer of Millersville, Mo.; a twin brother, Ernest Cox of Olive Branch; a stepdaughter, Peggy Walk of Dyersburg; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and great-grandson.
