Burl E. Stamp Sr., 62, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996, at his home. He was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Des Arc, son of the late Howard E. and Iola Howard Stamp. Burl E. Stamp Sr., 62, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996, at his home.

He was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Des Arc, son of the late Howard E. and Iola Howard Stamp. He was active in supporting families who were victims of abuse, drug and alcohol dependency and in 1990 had been recognized for more than 13,000 hours of volunteer service by Hyland Center in St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis.

Cape Girardeau County Circuit Court judges named him as an honorary member of the bar in 1990 in recognition of his work with families.

He married Mary Ann Burch, who survives him, on Aug. 8, 1959, in Piedmont. He was a retired self-employed insurance broker, a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and an army veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Burl E. Jr. and W. Dwight Stamp, both of St. Louis; a daughter, Ann Muench of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Charles R. Stamp of Sikeston and Lane Stamp of Branson; two sisters, Rebecca Janis of Effingham, Ill., and Jeanette Parker of Des Arc; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
