Vernon R. "Bud" Walton, 61, of Jackson passed away in the arms of his loving family Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 17, 1946, in East Prairie, Mo., son of Vernon Madison and Ruby Pearl Hutson Walton.

Vernon was a customer service technician 31 years at Procter & Gamble. He was of the Baptist belief.

He served his country proudly as a sergeant during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include a loving companion of 23 years, Doris Welker Bailey of Marble Hill, Mo.; a son, Stephen Walton of Jackson; two daughters, Michelle Walton (Shawn Lincoln) of Marble Hill, Chasity (Adam) DuPerier of Jackson; two brothers, Robert (Isabel) Anderson of Granite City, Ill., Kenny (Diane) Walton of East Prairie; two sisters, Carolyn Walton of East Prairie, Pat (John) Long of Bloomfield, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Hunter Lincoln, Dillon Walton and Riley DuPerier.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Luke DuPerier.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hurricane Fork Cemetery near Marble Hill, with the Rev. Scott Cook and the Rev. Mark Lincoln officiating.

Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill is in charge of arrangements.
