Funeral service for Daniel Howard "Bud" Monroe of Cape Girardeau will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Morris Cobb and the Rev. Cy Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the chapel.

Mr. Monroe, 66, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born April 5, 1935, in Cape Girardeau County, son of the late Robert J. and Clella Bracken Monroe. He and Jo Ann Adams were married Nov. 4, 1955, in Jackson, Mo. She survives.

He resided all his life in Cape Girardeau County. He was a member of Maple United Methodist Church, where he served as a board member several years.

Mr. Monroe was a prominent area businessman and owner and operator of Monroe Plumbing and Heating Inc. He was a member of Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and held a seat on the Cape City Plumbing Board several years.

His career in plumbing began in 1955 working for a plumbing contractor, E.E. Meystedt. He also worked for Landgraf Lumber Co. before starting his own company in 1964.

When his children were young, he was active in 4-H and Boy Scouts, and served as scoutmaster several years. He also owned and operated a farm near Millersville, Mo., and at his home in Cape Girardeau County.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Daniel W. Monroe of Cape Girardeau County; two daughters, Donna McLain of Fruitland, Mo., Ruth Simmons of Millersville; a brother, Robert Monroe Jr. of Peoria, Ill.; two sisters, Louise Jinks of Hot Springs, Ark., and Marge Smith of Little Rock, Ark.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Robert Monroe, Missy Ehlers, Adam Monroe, Laura Monroe, Joe Wissman, John McLain, Jeffrey McLain, Kara McLain, Dara McLain, Tim Simmons, Eric Simmons and Emily Simmons; five great-grandchildren, Tommy Monroe, Haley Ehlers, David DeRousse, Clayton Simmons and Colin Simmons.

Pallbearers will be Robert Monroe, Adam Monroe, Joe Wissman, John McLain, Jeffrey McLain and Tim Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Deevers, Troy Thompson, Lynn Alley, Mike Bell, Don Pohlman and Richard Glueck.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
