JACKSON -- J.O. "Bud" Cord Jr., 68, of Jackson died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 7, 1931, in St. Louis, son of Jesse Owen and Martha Larsen Cord Sr. He and Betty Crites Clippard were married Aug. 26, 1972, in St. Louis.

Cord was employed by Cord North American Van Lines in St. Louis. He later worked at ABF Freight Lines and also owned and operated Cordwick Enterprises in Jackson, retiring from both in 1991.

He served in the U.S. Army and later served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Cathryn Humphreys of St. Louis, Debbie Lee of Warsaw, Donna Whalen of Climax Springs, Elaine Clippard Dworaczyk of Houston, Texas; three sons, David Clippard of Oklahoma City, Okla., Dean and Tim Clippard of Jackson; two brothers, William Cord of Rohnert Park, Calif., Robert Cord of Jackson; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.

Friends may call at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 6-8 p.m. today. A eulogy will be held at 7.

Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
