Bobbie Meinz

On Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, Arvazena "Bobbie" Meinz of Jackson, formerly of Scott City, went peacefully to her Lord Jesus, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Bobbie was born July 4, 1926, to Charles Jesse and Irene Thompson Roberts in Brooks Junction, Mo. She and Walter Joseph "Pete" Meinz were married Sept. 25, 1947, in Osceola, Ark.

Bobbie retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1977 after 27 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scott City and senior women Sunday school class, Sunny Village Garden Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary 3838, Esther Circle of New McKendree UMC in Jackson and ATT Pioneers.

Before losing her eyesight, her favorite pastime was playing cards on the weekends. Her love for reading was not deterred by her later impaired vision, due the Wolfner Library for the Blind. Above everything, however, was her love for her Lord and Savior and of course, her family.

She is survived by three daughters, Terry (Ron) Atkins of Bourbonnais, Ill., Tandy (Mike) Wendel of Jackson, and Gail (Morie) Myers of Keller, Texas; six grandchildren, Blake Phelps of Cape Girardeau, Tandra Phelps of Ballwin, Mo., Jennifer (Andy) Garcia of Carlsbad, Calif., Lindsay Atkins of Indianapolis, Natalie and Caroline Myers of Keller, Texas; two stepgranddaughters: Jamie (Skip) Stroder of Delta and Stacie (Steve) Dotson of Jackson; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Garcia of Carlsbad, Calif.; four stepgrandsons, Cody Schremp of Fruitland, Tyler Stroder of Delta, Grant and Evan Dotson of Jackson; and others who thought of her with the love of a grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, C.J (Jeff) and Prentice (Peck) Roberts; and a loving daughter, LaDonna Phelps.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will follow in New Lorimier Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Scott City Baptist Church Van Fund or a charity of choice.
