Robert J. "Bob" Pobst, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Nov. 15, 1911, at Allenville, son of Albert and Josephine Steimle Pobst. He and Agnes L. Scherer were married Sept. 30, 1930, at New Hamburg.
Pobst was a baker 44 years. He worked for Max J. Wielpuetz from 1929-35, at Bamby Baking Co. from 1935-55, and at Bunny Bread from 1955 until retiring April 4, 1973.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Knights of Columbus Council 1111.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald Pobst of Charlotte Hall, Md.; two daughters, Betty Czarnecki of St. Louis, Janet Jackson of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Jeanette Becht of Chaffee; a stepsister, Alma Stone of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Friday. Parish prayers will be at 7, followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with Msgr. Richard Rolwing officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
