SIKESTON, Mo. -- Billy Lane Smith, 63, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 1, 1937, at Armorel, Ark., son of James M. and Myrtis Morrison Smith. He and Barbara B. Southern were married June 4, 1961, in Lilbourn, Mo.

Smith was a farmer and a member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston. He served in the Missouri National Guard for four years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Lane Smith of Sikeston; his mother of Sikeston; two sisters, Josephine Ferguson of Dallas, Texas, and Melanie Uribe of Austin, Texas; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Pat Hogan will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
