PERKS, Ill. -- Billy Joe Long Sr., 61, of Perks died at 3:34 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Born March 26, 1937, in Salem, Ky., he was the son of Arthur Eugene and Mary Leona Sharp. He married Mary Jean Meyer on July 9, 1980. She survives in Perks...

PERKS, Ill. -- Billy Joe Long Sr., 61, of Perks died at 3:34 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born March 26, 1937, in Salem, Ky., he was the son of Arthur Eugene and Mary Leona Sharp.

He married Mary Jean Meyer on July 9, 1980. She survives in Perks.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six sons, Brian Long of Granite City, Billy Austin Long of Atlanta, Ga., Billy Long Jr. of Perks, Corey Marshall Long of Vienna, and David and Kevin McKee, both of Karnak; five daughters, Beth Schburt of Granite City, Susie King of Dongola, Debra Hazelwood of Tamms, Karen Sue Tatum of Thebes and Cynthia Ditterline of Cypress; two brothers, Douglas and Roy Long, both of Mounds; a sister, Luvene Duckworth of Douglas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery at Cypress.
