ANNA, Ill. -- Funeral for Billy E. Cates of Anna will be held at 1 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home. The Revs. Paul Sadler and Tim Sadler will officiate. Burial will be in Casper Cemetery, with military rites by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.
Cates, 70, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at the VA Medical Center in Marion.
He was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Anna, son of Raymond D. and Clara A. Houseman Cates. He and Joyce "Pinky" Adams were married May 21, 1949, in Anna.
Cates was service manager at Ford Garage in Anna more than 25 years and retired from Illinois Fruit Growers Exchange at Cobden in 1984. He was a life member of VFW Post 3455. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Donna Cates of Mandeville, La., Connie Boyd of Anna; three sons, Jerry Cates of Cape Girardeau, Larry and Gary Cates, both of Mandeville; a brother, Darrell Cates of Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Joan Trammel of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
