Billy Blackwell Sr.

Billy G. Blackwell Sr., 79, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, son of Thomas G. and Mary Craig Blackwell. He and Beatrice Wallace Blackwell were married April 13, 1952, in Forrest City, Ark.

Blackwell worked for Harris Motor Co. and Ford Groves Motor Co. He later started his own auto body shop, retiring in 1996.

Survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Darrell Blackwell and Billy G. Blackwell Jr., both of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Bob Blackwell of Fruitland, Earl Blackwell of Clarksville, Ark.; and four sisters, Bonnie Busby of Bismarck, Mo., Betty Freeman of Park Hills, Mo., Nadine Blyzes of Bismarck and Connie Melton of Oak Ridge.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at noon Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating.

Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
