William "Bill" McKinnis, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, July 7, 2008, at his home.

He was born July 10, 1925, in St. Louis, son of Larkin and Goldie Overstreet McKinnis. He and Geneva Hartle were married July 17, 1948, in St. Louis.

McKinnis served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He worked at Kimbel Truck Lines and then 28 years in management at Atlas Plastics. Following retirement he became an avid fisherman at his Kentucky Lake home. He enjoyed working in his shop and especially loved working on golf carts. "Mac" was known as "the golf cart man." He was proud of his race car days when he raced midget, stock and sprint cars. His car was No. 101. He was a member of Red Star Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael (Linda) McKinnis of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Patricia Prasse (Rocky) of St. Louis; a brother, Lyle McKinnis of Imperial, Mo.; a sister, Sharon McKinnis of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Dustin McKinnis of Cape Girardeau, Ryan Prasse of St. Louis, Jessica Prasse of San Francisco; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kayla Prasse of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty; and a grandson, Brett Prasse.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. William L. Burke and Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dustin McKinnis Medical Fund.
