Bill K. Engleman, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 1, 2019, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
He was born April 20, 1931, in Jackson to Adolph and Berniece Savers Engleman. He and Marjorie James were married Aug. 8, 1954, at Clarkton, Missouri.
He was a staff sergeant in the National Guard of the United States and Missouri and as a reserve of the Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War.
He was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He kept up with his 1949 basketball teammates at yearly reunions. He was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, where he played basketball four years and was one of the founding fathers of the Missouri Zeta chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, "Sig Ep" to Cape Girardeau, and honored as a charter member of the national fraternity's Southeast chapter.
He worked for R.B. Potashnick as the insurance risk manager for 30 years.
He was past lieutenant governor of Evening Optimists, past president of the Board of Governors at the Cape Girardeau Country Club, trustee and secretary of treasurer of the Laborers Welfare Fund of Jefferson City, Missouri, past chairman of Associated General Contractors in St. Louis and Jefferson City, SEMO Booster Club Board of Directors, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838 and volunteer for Red Cross and the Visitors Convention Bureau, representing the City of Cape Girardeau.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Engleman of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Pamala (James) Rochè of Jackson, Natalie (David) Mansell of Cape Girardeau and Melinda (Carl) Black of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Conley officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Chateau Girardeau, Centenary United Methodist Church or Missouri Veterans Home.
