Bill J. Dacus, 67, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at his home, after a long, courageous battle against cancer, with his wife and family at his side.
Sally and Bill Dacus would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Dan Bieser and Dr. Andrew Moore, nurses and staff of Southeast Cancer Center for their care, dedication and support.
He was born Jan. 24, 1950, in Cape Girardeau to Doyle and Rosemary Recker Dacus. He married Sally Schnurbusch on May 20, 1990.
He attended school in Tupelo, Mississippi, and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1968. He moved with his family to Cape Girardeau in 1968.
His career began with management of grocery stores for the Storey Management Group, and he eventually opened Dacus Grocery in Tamms, Illinois.
Later, he and his wife, Sally, opened Benton Bestway in Benton, Missouri, closing it in 2014 after 21 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Sally Dacus; a son, Mitchell (Victoria) Dacus of Jackson; grandsons, Caleb and Quinton Dacus; brothers, Bob (Glenda) Dacus of Sikeston, Missouri, and Brad (Suzanne) Dacus of Memphis, Tennessee; sisters, Betty (Don) Dry of Cape Girardeau and Brenda (John) Pfefferkorn of Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Hailey Dacus.
Bill and Sally were members at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
His favorite hobbies were golfing, dove and duck hunting, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Pallbearers will be Jeff, Tripp and Bradley Dacus, Kevin and Luke Dry, Derrick Biri, Drew Schnurbusch, Lucas Davis, John Pfefferkorn and Josh Clayton. Honorary pallbearers will be James Riley Hunter, Jimmy Ivy, Mickey Akers and L. D. Hancock.
Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Cancer Center, Southeast Hospice, Southeast Home Health or a charity of choice.
