SIKESTON -- William T. Cates, 72, of Sikeston, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1991, at the John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. He was born Sept. 27, 1918, at Lonoke, Ark., son of Charles T. and Lilan Curbin Cates. A resident of Sikeston since 1946, he was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church, and had owned and operated Bill Cates Garage from 1955 until retiring in 1986...

SIKESTON -- William T. Cates, 72, of Sikeston, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1991, at the John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born Sept. 27, 1918, at Lonoke, Ark., son of Charles T. and Lilan Curbin Cates.

A resident of Sikeston since 1946, he was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church, and had owned and operated Bill Cates Garage from 1955 until retiring in 1986.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

On Aug. 19, 1944, he married Louise Baugus at Osceola, Ark.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Withrow, Sikeston, Patricia Schuerenburg, Matthews; one brother, Alvin Cates, Cabot, Ark.; two sisters, Mabel Johnson, El Paso, Ark., Rena Elliot, Texarkana, Texas, and three grandsons.

One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. today until time of service at 2 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Don Embry officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
